高校图书馆也应在时代的变革中，不断地寻求自身的发展的方向，应将现代化信息技术与能为用户提供的服务方式、服务内容、服务空间、服务资源等全面、有效地结合起来，建立全新的、面向用户的、全方位的、全面感知的、无限泛在的智慧化管理服务体系，在任何地点、任何时间将用户感兴趣的资源以各种形式，不管是视频、音频还是文字的形式推送给读者，致力于给读者提供更满意的、更精准化的服务[6]。在智慧时代下，高校图书馆能为读者提供的各种资源服务的本质是不会变的，但其未来的发展、服务方向应突显智慧性。

基于物理空间的服务正逐渐被智能空间、创客空间等多元空间所替代。同时，对资源中的每一条单元信息，赋予特殊的信息标识，类似唯一标识符系统，以方便用户进行统一检索。物联网技术被用于解决图书的系统感知和精准定位，以及物联网与互联网的连接与整合，扩大互联网的覆盖范围，促进无所不在的网络网的形成。
